Corbett Challenge 2002

 Challengers on Wetherlam, Cumbria
Challengers on Wetherlam, Cumbria

The 2002 Corbett Challenge took place on Saturday 14th September. The Challenge was to put a team of walkers on the top of all 111 mountains in England and Wales over 2,500' between 12.00 and 2.00 on the day.

Teams of walkers came from many organisations including:

United Utilities, Northumbrian Water, Yorkshire Water, The Environment Agency, Wessex Water, Thames Water, Anglian Water, Severn Trent Water, Montgomery Watson, Wavin, BBV, Parkman, Orange, ABB, Earthtech
PN Daly, Faber Maunsell, Newcastle Building Society, Rotary.

Unfortunately, despite everybody's efforts, we failed to achieve the Challenge as one team had to withdraw at the last minute due to a family bereavement and one mountain was unavailable because the army were using it as a shooting range on the day.

Special thanks go to the marshalls on the day, Ruth Bell and Tracey Summerlin who helped in the control room in Warrington and in particular to Tom Veitch who did a wonderful job in the weeks before the Challenge allocating teams to mountains and making sure that they had all the information they needed for the day.

The 2002 Corbett Challenge raised a fantastic £36,000 for WaterAid.
