Corbett ChallengeWe did it! On Saturday 16 September 2006 the Corbett Challenge was achieved for the very first time. WaterAid's Corbett Challenge aims to put a team of walkers (between four and six) on the top of all 110 Corbetts, mountains over 2500 feet, in England and Wales between 12 noon and 2pm. All Corbetts were conquered on Saturday 16 September 2006 after a nailbiting finish. Success was riding on one team making it up to the top of Glaramara in the Lake District. The call came in at 6:30pm to a big cheer to report that the mountain had been climbed. A really big thank you to everyone involved and all 1311 walkers of the 267 teams that took part on behalf of WaterAid for making this challenge such a success. Thanks also to Vertex Communications for providing the call centre operation on the day. For those who took part, please remember to send in a minimum of £50 sponsorship. We hope to raise over £80,000 to help many more people gain access to clean water and sanitation and we need your help to achieve this!
John Wareing, project manager for Corbett Challenge, says: "We are absolutely thrilled to announce that this is the very first time that we’ve successfully achieved the Corbett Challenge. All 110 of the mountains were climbed – and the teams have raised a huge £80,000. This will really make a difference, helping WaterAid to bring the basic essentials for life - clean water and sanitation - to more of the poorest people in Africa and Asia." Please don’t forget ... by climbing up you are helping Kasanda climb out of poverty. >> Read about the 2004 Challenge>> Read about the 2002 Challenge |
